As the third nation to independently send humans to space, China reached a major milestone in 2003 with the Shenzhou 5 mission. Since then, its space achievements have accelerated. In 2022 China completed Tiantong, its permanently crewed modular space station. With the U.S. barring China from teh ISS and the ISS nearing decommissioning, Tiantong marks a new era as a second fully operattional space outpost in low Earth orbit.
